Margo Smith has joined Snowflake Computing Inc. as chief legal officer.

A spokeswoman for Snowflake confirmed that Smith, who updated her job title on her LinkedIn profile Monday, had been appointed to lead the legal department.

The San Mateo, California-based company, which offers a data warehouse in the cloud and is led by former Microsoft executive Bob Muglia, declined to provide further comment about Smith's appointment.

She replaces Barbara Walkowski, who left the company earlier this year.

Walkowski, who confirmed her departure but did not share her reason for leaving, joined Snowflake in February 2016. She served as chief legal officer and senior vice president of strategic operations, according to her LinkedIn profile.

According to a LinkedIn search, Snowflake has six other attorneys in its legal department, and is hiring for an additional lawyer in Atlanta.

Smith, who did not immediately respond for comment, most recently worked as the legal chief at enterprise software company Apttus Corp., where she began in July of this past year.

Prior to her stint at Apttus, Smith served as GC of Marketo Inc. for about four years and GC of QuinStreet Inc. for two years.

In a July email to Corporate Counsel, Smith said about her move to Apttus, “It is not often that one can join the leadership team of a company that has defined an entire category of software—I am fortunate to have had that chance twice.”
