Kickstarter is a company all about allowing users to reach big funding goals for business ideas and creative projects. The company's legal function recently reached a goal of its own—finding a brand new general counsel.

Christopher Mitchell has stepped into the top legal role at Kickstarter. The Brooklyn, New York-based crowdfunding company confirmed Mitchell stepped into the role on April 15.

In an emailed statement Monday, Mitchell said, “it's a privilege to join Kickstarter, a proud public benefit corporation that has done so much to support creative people. I look forward to continuing Kickstarter's history of social and political advocacy around issues like net neutrality.

He replaces Michal Rosenn, who left for Expa, a company that supports early-stage ventures, late last year. Rosenn had been with Kickstarter for about five years, first as deputy GC, before being promoted to GC in 2015.

Most recently, Mitchell served as general counsel for littleBits, a company that manufactures technology kits to “make complex technology simple and fun,” according to its website.

He had previously served as general counsel for Tumblr Inc. and held in-house roles with Yahoo Inc. and Sony Music Entertainment.

Before going in-house in 2007, Mitchell worked as an associate with Carroll, Guido & Groffman and Simpson Thacher & Bartlett.
