Shutterstock.com Chicago-based TCS Education System announced Thursday that it has appointed Deborah Solmor as general counsel and corporate secretary, effective June 25. In that role, Solmor will oversee TCS' legal, compliance and regulatory functions. A company spokesperson could not be immediately reached for more information about the hire, including whether Solmor is the company's first general counsel. Solmor also could not be reached immediately. Founded in 2009, TCS helps manage five institutions nationwide: The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, Pacific Oaks College & Children's School in Pasadena and San Jose, California, The Santa Barbara & Ventura Colleges of Law, Dallas Nursing Institute and Oakland, California-based Saybrook University. TCS partnered with The Santa Barbara & Ventura Colleges of Law in 2010, according to a report from the National Law Journal. Under that agreement, the organization performs administrative functions at the law school, including academic support, student services, marketing, accounting and human resources, the NLJ wrote. TCS also agreed to institute technology upgrades including better classroom equipment and online courses, according to the report. Solmor joins the company from Career Education Corp., where she served as vice president and deputy GC for litigation and as chief compliance officer. Prior to joining CEC, she was a litigation attorney at Jones Lang LaSalle, IP but spent the majority of her legal career to date, about 21 years, in the Chicago office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. There she had a diversified state and federal litigation practice focused on high-stakes disputes. She represented clients in consumer product manufacturing, insurance, alcoholic beverages, tobacco, financial services and other industries, according to her LinkedIn profile. Solmor earned her degree from DePaul University College of Law.
