A shareholder at Odin, Feldman & Pittleman will be the next chief legal officer of Reston, Virginia-based PagnatoKarp, a wealth advisory company, effective Sept. 20.

Wayne Zell, who has been at Odin Feldman since 2011, said in the announcement of his hire Tuesday that he has worked with Paul Pagnato and David Karp, the firm's founding partners, in the past and looks forward to joining them in their venture.

“I have had the pleasure of working with Paul Pagnato and David Karp for over 20 years,” Zell said in the announcement. “[I] am very excited to pursue this unique career opportunity to join their growing multifamily office and team of professionals dedicated to transparency through True Fiduciary standards.”

PagnatoKarp provides clients with a number of services including wealth management, financial planning, tax and legal. The firm has over $3.8 billion in assets under advisement.

As CLO, Zell's responsibilities at the firm will include client estate and tax planning, business succession planning as well as serving as the top in-house counsel.

Zell won't be entirely cut off from his old firm though—he will remain of counsel at Odin Feldman and will work with select clients there.

“I am gratified to remain affiliated with OFP going forward and am confident that our collaboration will be beneficial to our clients and to the firm,” Zell said.

In a press release, Doug Ross, Odin Feldman's managing partner, thanked Zell for his time at the firm.

“Wayne has been an integral part of OFP over the last 7 and a half years, and we are excited that he will remain affiliated with us as of counsel,” Ross said. “We also are very excited for Wayne and wish him the very best in pursuing his new career with PagnatoKarp, which remains an important OFP client.”

Zell has also worked as the top lawyer at Newsreel and YellowBrix Inc. He has also worked as a partner at Powell Goldstein and as a member at Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo. Zell serves on the board of directors of the Northern Virginia Family Service.
