The recent spate of cryptocurrency hires in the legal world doesn't appear to be slowing down anytime soon.

Looking to expand and add expertise into its cryptocurrencies dealings, K2 Intelligence announced the hiring of Gabriel Hidalgo, an experienced in-house compliance manager, as managing director on Thursday.

Hidalgo, who comes from the CCO seat at Noble Bank International and has also worked for the U.S. Federal Reserve, will collaborate with associate managing director Brandon Lee to provide consulting on regulatory matters involving cryptocurrencies and digital asset markets. Together, Lee and Hidalgo will help clients who are seeking license approval, provide assistance in the creation of anti-money laundering compliance programs and help clients mitigate overall risks.

Hidalgo's role is brand new for K2 Intelligence. In an email, a spokesperson said it was created to reflect the expanding importance of cryptocurrency and fintech to K2 Intelligence's clients. Hidalgo started in the role on Sept. 17.

“K2 Intelligence is uniquely positioned to service the full range of regulatory consulting services on matters relevant to those active in the crypto currency and digital asset markets—the companies issuing new digital currencies, investors speculating on them, and the financial institutions ultimately servicing them,” Hidalgo said in a statement.

Jeremy Kroll, the CEO of K2 Intelligence, said he is “delighted” to have Hidalgo join the firm.

“The digital assets market is experiencing unprecedented growth that is also accompanied by risk and liabilities for companies issuing new currencies, investors speculating on them, and the financial institutions ultimately servicing them. Gabe's highly developed expertise in both AML compliance and the cryptocurrency market will help our clients navigate the digital asset ecosystem and stay ahead of the rapidly evolving regulatory landscape,” Kroll said in a statement.

Aside from Noble Bank, which specializes in innovative transactions—including those involving crypto—Hidalgo has also served in senior compliance roles at Community Federal Savings Bank, itBit and HSBC. He has also previously served as the general counsel of Case de Cambio. He is a graduate of the University of Dayton School of Law.
