Andrew Vu has stepped into the driver's seat as general counsel of Mercedes-Benz Research & Development North America Inc. (MBRDNA).

Vu, who joined Mercedes on Oct. 1, is now responsible for legal support of MBRDNA and reports to Philipp Skogstad, CEO of MBRDNA, and Matthew Everitt, GC for Mercedes-Benz USA.

“It's an exciting time to be in the auto-tech-industry. I enjoy cars and technology and [MBRDNA's] goal is to lead in cutting edge technology, software and design. … Of course, Mercedes-Benz has been evolving beyond being just an automobile manufacturer into really a mobility provider and technology leader,” Vu said in an email.

This will be Vu's first time in the GC role, and in the auto industry, a transition he said is going “great.”

Vu will play a role in bringing MBRDNA into the technology space, where he has years of in-house experience. Prior to MBRDNA, Vu was in-house counsel at SAP, where he supported product development and business teams creating new technologies. He has also worked in-house for Walmart Global eCommerce and Sony Computer Entertainment America.

Vu began his legal career in government, according to his LinkedIn, working for the district attorney's office in San Joaquin County and San Francisco after graduating from the Santa Clara University School of Law.

He said that he is “very excited” for his new role, where he'll use those experiences to lead a legal team.

“It's great to be in the automotive industry right now. I am eager to support the business and be part of the dynamic and exciting development of MBRDNA,” Vu said.
