Events DC, the convention and sports authority for Washington, D.C., announced Tuesday that it promoted from within for its new top lawyer.
Nicole Jackson, who previously worked as the company's deputy general counsel, began working as the company's top lawyer at the end of October. She replaces the company's general counsel Marlene Johnson, who passed away in September 2017.
In her new role, Jackson oversees the Office of the General Counsel and acts as a policy adviser on all major organizational operations.
Jackson was not immediately available for comment.
Before becoming the top lawyer at Events DC, Jackson worked as the company's deputy general counsel since 2009. She also has been general counsel of the D.C. Sports and Entertainment Commission and was the top lawyer and director of policy and planning at the D.C. Department of Small and Local Business Development. Jackson was once an associate at Kaye Scholer, now merged with Arnold & Porter. She graduated from the Duke University School of Law in 1998.
On Tuesday, Events DC also announced two additional promotions to executive roles. The company announced that Robert Stowe, who was formerly the vice president of facilities operations, will now be the vice president of development and strategic initiatives, and that Misty Johnson-Oratokhai will be the company's chief administrative officer. Johnson-Oratokhai previously served as the company's chief people officer.
“I am excited about these changes, as well as the direction in which we are moving our organization. We will continue to look for opportunities to strengthen Events DC, ensuring that we not only remain the top provider of sports, entertainment, conventions and meetings, but also serve as innovation leaders, continuously embarking upon new ventures that further highlight D.C. as a premier destination to live, work and play,” the company's president, Gregory O'Dell, said in a statement.
DC Events is the official convention and sports authority for Washington, D.C. It oversees the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.
