Eric Schwartz joined Integra LifeSciences as its new top lawyer this week.

Schwartz will serve as corporate vice president, general counsel and secretary at the Plainsboro, New Jersey-based medical technology company. He joins after serving as senior vice president and GC at musculoskeletal implant manufacturer Globus Medical Inc. In that role, he led several strategic transactions, including the largest acquisition in company history, and led a cross-functional team responsible for integrating operations in more than 20 countries, according to a statement announcing Schwartz's hiring.

Schwartz could not immediately be reached for comment. It was not clear whether he is the company's first-ever GC.

“I am pleased to welcome Eric as our new general counsel and latest member of the executive leadership team,” Integra president and chief executive officer Peter Arduini said in the statement. “His extensive background and leadership experience in life sciences, as well as his global knowledge in mergers and acquisitions, regulatory, and providing board and corporate governance support make him an exceptional addition to Integra.”

Prior to joining Globus Medical in April 2016, Schwartz had been the chief operating officer for three years at CardioVIP, Inc., according to his LinkedIn profile. Before that, he held roles of increasing responsibility in the law departments at Johnson & Johnson, Animas Corp. and Cable & Wireless America. He also served as the co-founder and principal of Jericho Equity Partners, which invests in and operates growth-oriented health care service companies.

A graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law, Schwartz began his legal career as a corporate associate in the New York office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. He also holds an MBA in finance from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
