EyePoint Pharmaceuticals has named Ron Honig to the newly created position of senior vice president, general counsel and company secretary.
At Watertown, Massachusetts-based EyePoint, Honig will oversee all of the company's legal activities, including the legal aspects of licensing, compliance, strategic transactions and business development, according to a statement announcing his hire. EyePoint specializes in the development of products to treat serious eye diseases.
Honig joins the biopharmaceutical company after several years in-house at medical device companies, most recently at Novanta Inc., where he had served as VP for global legal affairs for the past two years, according to his LinkedIn profile. Prior to joining Novanta, Honig was SVP, GC and company secretary at medical device and component manufacturer Lake Region Medical. Prior to that, he had been the top lawyer at urological and gynecological medical device maker Gyrus ACMI.
“My priorities are to ensure that the legal services provided to EyePoint are effective and efficient while helping to enable the company to scale and achieve its strategic as well as tactical objectives,” Honig said in an email.
A 1993 graduate of Boston University School of Law, Honig was an associate at several law firms before going in-house, including Palmer & Dodge, McLane Middleton and Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, LinkedIn said.
Last month, EyePoint Pharmaceuticals announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration had approved its Yutiq implant for the treatment of uveitis, a leading cause of blindness. The company is expected to launch the product in early 2019, according to news reports.
“Ron brings substantial expertise in complex and corporate legal matters in the healthcare industry, with recent experience in commercial-stage companies,” EyePoint president and chief executive officer Nancy Lurker said in the news release. “As EyePoint transforms into a commercial company and we expand our ophthalmology pipeline, Ron's legal and business acumen, coupled with his strong leadership skills, will be highly valued and we welcome him to our growing team.”
