The longtime top lawyer at Avvo Inc. has landed a new gig at a consumer resource for medical aesthetics following the on-demand legal services company's acquisition by Internet Brands earlier this year.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Josh King is now general counsel at Seattle-based startup RealSelf Inc., an online forum offering reviews and information about cosmetic treatments. He served as the chief legal officer at Avvo from October 2007 to last April, about four months after media and software services organization Internet Brands announced that it was acquiring Avvo.
Under the terms of its acquisition by Internet Brands, Avvo was to keep its brand and continue to operate with its current leadership team out of its Seattle-based headquarters.
However, in October, Internet Brands opted to pair Avvo with the storied Martindale moniker and rebranded its online legal network Martindale-Avvo. Previously, the network was known as The Martindale Legal Marketing Network.
King could not immediately be reached for comment about his move. It is unclear whether he is RealSelf's first GC.
Prior to joining Avvo, King was the director for business development at Clearwire and vice president for corporate development at AT&T Wireless, LinkedIn said. He also served as GC at CellularOne of San Francisco for nearly five years, it added.
At RealSelf, he handles all of the company's legal and government affairs matters. Last April, the company raised $40 million in its first financing round since 2008, bringing the total capital raised since it was founded in 2006 to $42 million.
A graduate of the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, King began his legal career as a civil litigator at Fox, Shjeflo, Hartley & Babu and later at Chanler & Somers, according to LinkedIn.
