Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. announced Thursday that it has hired Roger Theodoredis, a veteran attorney in the food industry, to be its first chief legal officer.

The fast-casual restaurant chain headquartered in Newport Beach, California, has changed its leadership team after a number of outbreaks of food-borne illness in recent years and other issues.

“Chipotle's mission of cultivating a better world has a deep personal resonance with me, and I was delighted to have the opportunity to join a fast moving, purpose-driven company like this one,” Theodoredis said in an emailed statement. “The people throughout Chipotle have an amazing enthusiasm for providing excellent food, for the purpose, and for each other. After I saw what the company was all about, I couldn't wait to join the team.”

According to his LinkedIn profile, Theodoredis worked as the general secretary of DanoneWave, which was the resulting company after a merger with The WhiteWave Foods Co. Prior to the merger, Theodoredis worked as the executive vice president, general counsel and secretary of The WhiteWaves Food Co. He has also been division general counsel of Mead Johnson Nutrition and assistant general counsel of Chiquita. He was also the president and CEO of D. Theodoredis & Sons Inc., a produce distribution company. Theodoredis was once an associate at Drinker Biddle & Reath.

Theodoredis began working at Chipotle in October, according to a company spokesperson.

On Thursday, Chipotle also announced the hiring of Tabassum Zalotrawala as the company's chief development officer.

“I am energized about having such a world-class executive leadership team in place to accelerate our strategic goals. Roger and Tabassum are perfect additions to the team, and their experience will be essential as Chipotle focuses on winning today and cultivating a better future,” CEO Brian Niccol, who was hired earlier this year from Taco Bell, said in the news release.

“I'm confident that this team will lead Chipotle's culture of purpose, innovation, and accountability to deliver new levels of growth and value for customers and shareholders.”
