The Greensboro, North Carolina-based VF Corp. announced Monday that an experienced in-house attorney will become the general counsel for its spin-off jeans company, Kontoor Brands Inc.

Laurel Krueger has been named vice president and general counsel of Kontoor Brands. The spin-off is expected to be completed in the first half of 2019. She will serve on Kontoor Brands' executive management team and report directly to Kontoor Brands CEO Scott Baxter effective immediately.

“Laurel is a seasoned legal executive with nearly 20 years of experience, including in the retail industry,” Baxter said in the press release. “Her breadth of leadership experience with multinational corporations will be an asset to our team as we embark on our new journey as an independent company and grow our business in the denim and apparel categories.”

“Extraordinary talent will be critical in establishing Kontoor Brands as a thriving independent organization, and Laurel is a great addition to the strong bench of leadership that has been appointed to date,” said Steve Rendle, VF Corporation's CEO, in the release.

Krueger most recently served as the executive vice president and general counsel of jewelry company Signet Jewelers Ltd., according to her Linkedin profile. She joined Signet in 2012 as associate general counsel. Before Signet, she served in a variety of in-house legal roles at Federal-Mogul LLC, Atlas Oil, Tecumseh Products Co. LLC, Metaldyne and Borders Group Inc. She also worked as an associate at Paul Hastings from 1999 to 2000. Krueger graduated from the University of Michigan Law School in 1999.

A spokesperson for VF Corporation did not respond to request for further comment Monday. Krueger was not available for comment Monday.

VF Corporation announced in August that it planned on spinning off its Lee and Wrangler brand of jeans into a separate company, according to a Reuters report. The report indicates that the spin-off will allow the VF Corporation to focus more on its Vans sneakers and The North Face outerwear brands.
