British online food delivery startup Deliveroo is losing its chief legal officer.
Deliveroo announced CLO Rob Miller's departure in a press release Tuesday. The London-based company also announced the departure of chief people officer Beth Clutterbuck and chief technology officer Mike Hudack.
“I have decided to move on from Deliveroo in order to pursue some new and exciting projects and to work more closely with some businesses in which I've invested in over the years,” Miller said in a message to Corporate Counsel on Wednesday.
Thea Rogers, who has served as Deliveroo's vice president of global communications and policy since January 2017, will now add chief legal officer to her role. She will coordinate across these departments ”as Deliveroo campaigns for a change in the law to end the trade off between flexibility and security that exists so that riders can choose when and where to work while also getting benefits while they work,” according to a statement from the company.
Miller joined Deliveroo as CLO in January 2018. In late 2017, the company raised nearly $500 million, for a valuation for over $2 billion, Reuters reported.
Deliveroo faced a number of legal battles over the employment rights of its riders, who deliver food on bike and are currently classified as “self-employed” in the U.K. In December, Deliveroo riders' attempts to form a union were shot down by the High Court, BBC reported.
“Rob has worked on many important projects at Deliveroo in the past year and we are grateful to him for his work in that time,” a Deliveroo spokesperson said in an email Wednesday.
He previously served as CLO of gaming companies Improbable Worlds Ltd. and King.com Ltd., whose initial public offering he led in 2014, according to his LinkedIn profile. Miller has also worked as the general counsel of Skype, the head of legal and international for LivingSocial LLC, the senior director of legal and government communications of eBay UK, and corporate counsel for British Telecommunications plc.
Prior to moving in-house, Miller was a solicitor at Field Fisher Waterhouse. He earned his law degree at the City University Law School.
