Philadelphia-based FMC Corp. announced Tuesday that one of its longtime in-house attorneys has tapped to be the company's next vice president, general counsel and secretary.

Michael Reilly will start in his new role at the chemical manufacturing company April 1, the day after the company's current general counsel retires. Andrea Utecht, the current legal leader at FMC, announced that her last day at FMC will be March 31.

“Michael brings exceptional experience and a strong track record to the general counsel role,” said FMC chairman and CEO Pierre Brondeau in the press release. “He has served as legal counsel in our agricultural business for more than 15 years, and has deep knowledge of both the corporate and commercial sides of the company, as well as the crop protection industry. Michael is highly respected throughout FMC, and is well prepared to assume leadership of our Law Department.”

Reilly joined FMC in 2002 as the group general counsel for the agricultural products group. In 2013 he was promoted to associate general counsel and became the company's chief compliance officer in 2016. In addition to his legal duties as associate general counsel, Reilly was also responsible for FMC's ethics and compliance processes. Before joining FMC, he held in-house roles at Syngenta Corp. and Zeneca, according to his LinkedIn profile. Reilly has held associate roles at Sidley Austin and Ballard Spahr. He graduated from Harvard Law School in 1988.

Utecht will help with the transition. According to her biography on the FMC website, Utecht joined FMC in 2001 as chief legal officer. She was elected vice president, general counsel and secretary in 2002. In 2011, Utecht was named executive vice president, general counsel and secretary. Before joining FMC, she served as the senior vice president, secretary and general counsel of Atofina Chemicals Inc., now known as Arkema Inc.

“Andrea has played a significant role in FMC's growth and development throughout her nearly two decades leading our Law Department,” said Brondeau. “During the last nine years, she has been at the forefront of FMC's transformation into an agricultural sciences company. Today's FMC is a better, stronger company because of her exceptional leadership.”

Reilly and Utecht were not available for additional comment Thursday.
