Talent management software company Topia has appointed longtime in-house lawyer Elaine Foreman as its first general counsel.
San Francisco-based Topia announced Foreman's elevation to GC in a press release Thursday. Foreman joined Topia, formerly MOVE Guides, in October 2017 as vice president of legal and real estate. In that role, she handled all of Topia's legal matters, including commercial transactions, mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property protection and leasing issues. She'll now also oversee legal strategy.
“I am excited to take on the expanded role of General Counsel,” Foreman told Corporate Counsel in an email. “Topia is changing the global mobility management space and I am looking forward to positioning us for long-term growth and success.”
Prior to Topia, Foreman spent more than three years as director and senior counsel of Autodesk Inc. According to her LinkedIn profile, she was lead counsel for all sales functions in the Americas, managing a team of attorneys and contract negotiators.
Foreman also served as senior director of legal services at Cisco Systems for nearly four years, after more than three years as director of legal services at the company. As chief counsel for Cisco's Worldwide Partner Organization, her LinkedIn states she built a team of attorneys and provided guidance on regulatory and antitrust issues.
“Elaine has been an outstanding addition to our team from the start, guiding us skillfully and strategically through a major acquisition, a rebrand, numerous partnership deals, GDPR implementation, and intellectual property protection,” said Topia CEO Brynne Kennedy in a press release. “As we look ahead, Elaine's experience and insight will be extremely valuable for demonstrating to our enterprise clients that we have the resources and expertise they'd expect, and for setting us on a mature path to success.”
She started her in-house career at Hewlett-Packard. Over the course of six years, Foreman served as senior counsel, advising the company's Worldwide and Americas Solution Partner Organization on transactional issues and business risks.
Foreman was an antitrust associate at Bryan Cave and a staff attorney at the Federal Trade Commission. She earned her J.D. at American University Washington College of Law.
