The film production company behind “Spotlight,” “Green Book,” ”Roma” and ”RBG” has bumped its general counsel up to chief operating officer.
Participant Media announced Gabriel Brakin as its COO Friday. Brakin joined the Beverly Hills, California-based company more than a decade ago, according to his LinkedIn profile, most recently serving as general counsel and executive vice president of business affairs.
“I'm thrilled to take on this new role and continue working with David and the rest of the team to advance [founder] Jeff Skoll's vision of creating world-class content that inspires and empowers audiences to drive change on the world's most pressing issues,” Brakin said in a press release. He was not immediately available for comment.
Brakin will continue to oversee Participant's corporate and legal affairs, aligning the functions with the company's long-term strategic plan. He'll also manage business operations, dealmaking and the integration of Participant's mandate to create content inspiring social action.
During his decade at Participant, Brakin has helped oversee the company's film financing, investments and strategic business initiatives. He managed the business and legal affairs team for film, television and digital content, marketing, social impact, and cross-platform creative and distribution activities.
Before joining Participant, Brakin spent two years at O'Melveny & Myers as an entertainment and media transactions associate. He also clerked at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit. Brakin earned his law degree at the University of California, Los Angeles.
His promotion was announced alongside two others: Christina Kounelias to president of worldwide marketing and Krista Wegener to executive vice president. All three report to CEO David Linde.
“I am thrilled by this well-deserved, long-overdue recognition of the hard work and dedication shown by this incredibly talented trio,” Linde said in the press release. “Gabe's experience and growth with the company has resulted in some of our most important successes, and he will continue to be an incomparable asset as we look to new and exciting ways to expand our social impact work.”
