A nonprofit health care organization based in Bloomington, Minnesota, has promoted one of its in-house attorneys to senior vice president and general counsel.

Nancy Evert, who currently serves as deputy general counsel at HealthPartners, will begin her new role as the organization's legal leader on July 5. She will lead the organization's legal, risk management and sustainability teams.

“Nancy is a trusted leader, known for her thoughtful approach and ability to bring forward-thinking solutions to legal and business strategies,” president and CEO Andrea Walsh said in a news release on Thursday.

Walsh added Evert is passionate about improving the health of the people HealthPartners serves.

Before joining HealthPartners in 2005, Evert was senior attorney at Dorsey & Whitney. Before that, she worked in-house as an attorney at Allina Hospitals & Clinics. According to the press release, Evert currently serves on the board of the Ten Thousand Things Theater Co. in St. Paul, Minnesota. She graduated from Columbia University School of Law in 1993, according to her LinkedIn profile.

Evert will replace longtime senior vice president and general counsel Barb Tretheway, who will be retiring in July.

Tretheway joined HealthPartners as senior vice president and general counsel in 2000. Before joining the nonprofit health organization, she worked as a principal at Gray Plant Mooty. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1988. According to her profile on the HealthPartners website, Tretheway serves as a member of the board of directors of Martins Point Health Care in Portland, Maine, and the Overseas Cooperative Development Council in Washington, D.C.

Tretheway and Evert were not available for comment on Friday.

According to a report in The Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal, HealthPartners is the second-largest health care provider in Minnesota, just behind the Mayo Clinic. The report states the health organization brought in $6.65 billion in revenue in 2017.
