A health care cloud company based in San Francisco announced Thursday the hiring of an experienced in-house attorney for technology companies to be its top lawyer.

Thomas McKeever has been named the first general counsel and chief legal officer of ClearDATA.

McKeever said the team at ClearDATA is “uniquely talented with a great mix of skills” and is looking forward to working with them.

“Healthcare professionals across the globe trust the ClearDATA HITRUST-certified cloud to safeguard their sensitive data and power their critical applications available across the major public cloud platforms,” McKeever said in the press release.

McKeever was not available for comment Thursday.

McKeever has spent most of his career in-house at technology companies. After graduating from Stanford Law School, he worked in-house at Sun Microsystems Inc. and Actuate Corp. He eventually became the general counsel and chief compliance officer of Actuate. He has also served as the top lawyer for Shutterfly Inc., OpenSpend Inc. and Accela Inc. He also serves as an adviser for DocMatter.

The announcement of McKeever's hiring comes on the same day the company announced that it hired Suhas Kelkar as its first chief product officer. Kelkar previously as the chief technology officer of BMC.

CEO Darin Brannan said he is happy to have both Kelkar and McKeever join the ClearDATA team.

“Suhas' commitment to entrepreneurship and innovation coupled with Tom's technology and compliance-specific legal experience make their insight valuable to our growth strategy,” Brannan said in the press release.

ClearDATA announced earlier this month it had joined the Public Health Sector Coordinating Council Cybersecurity Working Group to help establish industry guidelines to help minimize cyber threat risks.
