Accenture, the Dublin-based professional services company, announced Monday that its deputy general counsel will be taking over as the company's top lawyer and compliance chief in September.
Joel Unruch, currently senior managing director, deputy general counsel and corporate secretary, will become general counsel and chief compliance officer for the company. Interim CEO David Rowland said in the press release that Unruch has proved himself to be a trusted adviser to the board.
“Joel brings to the role of general counsel, secretary and chief compliance officer a proven track record of leadership across our legal function, as well as broad business and legal experience,” Rowland said.
Unruch, who is based in Chicago, began working as deputy general counsel at Accenture in 2011. Before that he worked as corporate counsel at Amazon. He also worked as an associate at Cravath, Swaine & Moore. He has a civil law degree from McGill University in Montreal and a master of laws degree from Harvard Law School.
He will replace Chad Jerdee, who has been general counsel and chief compliance officer since June 2015. Jerdee will take on a new role responsible for leading Accenture's global strategy and programs focused on responsible business, corporate sustainability and citizenship.
Before becoming general counsel, Jerdee served in a few roles in Accenture's legal department, including deputy general counsel, association general counsel and senior counsel. Jerdee has also worked as an associate at Rider Bennett and Rinke Noonan Law Firm, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Rowland said in the press release he is glad that Jerdee is stepping into the newly created role.
“Chad's 22 years with Accenture position him well for this new role, and with his dedicated leadership, we will bring together our many powerful initiatives to help Accenture and our clients drive long-term sustainable growth—helping achieve our vision of innovating to improve the way the world works and lives,” Rowland said.
Unruch and Jerdee were not immediately available for comment.
