Global online catering marketplace ezCater Inc. has hired Diane Musi as general counsel. She formerly served as the chief lawyer for Care.com Inc., a website for caregiver services.
Musi joins Boston-based ezCater after the company recently raised $150 million from investors at a $1.25 billion valuation during a Series D-1 funding round. So far, the company has raised $320 million.
More than 62,000 restaurants and caterers use ezCater's platform, which is the world's largest online marketplace for catering. Its clients include independent restaurants and national chains, such as Jersey Mike's Subs, Romano's Macaroni Grill and Schlotzsky's.
The company announced Musi's appointment Friday. She said in a prepared statement that she has a passion for “growing digital businesses and helping navigate them through pivotal stages in their lifecycle.”
Musi added “ezCater's industry leading solutions and vast catering network create an incredible global opportunity, and I'm thrilled to join this talented team at such an exciting time.”
The company's CEO and co-founder, Stefania Mallett, said Musi's “rigor, smarts and broad range of experience, including at tech companies during similar stages of growth, come to us at the perfect time.”
Musi served as the general counsel for Care.com for eight years after spending nearly 12 years as the general counsel of Upromise Inc., an online rewards service that helps families save for college, according to her LinkedIn profile.
At Care.com, Musi helped guide the company through venture capital financing rounds, mergers and acquisitions, and its initial public offering, which raised more than $104 million. She said in a 2014 interview with The National Law Journal that she spent about 80% of her time during the second half of 2013 preparing for the IPO.
“My team has done a great job in helping the company grow,” Musi said at the time.
Before she went in-house, Musi worked for five years as a corporate associate at Goodwin Procter in Boston. She is a graduate of Dartmouth College and University of Virginia School of Law.
