Fox Corp. announced Thursday that Claudia Teran, currently general counsel of Fox Sports, will take on the added responsibility of serving as executive vice president and corporate general counsel of Fox Corp.

Teran replaces Rita Tuzon who announced Wednesday she would be stepping down from the company. Tuzon had been in-house at Fox for 22 years.

The change in legal leaderships comes after a $71 billion merger between 21st Century Fox and The Walt Disney Co. in March. After the merger, Fox Corp. became a stand-alone company and conservative legal scholar Viet Dinh was named chief legal and policy officer of Fox Corp.

“It is a privilege to lead such a talented and dedicated business and legal affairs team as we build and grow this exciting new iteration of FOX,” Teran said in the press release.

Teran was not immediately available for additional comment. It was not clear when she will begin as general counsel of Fox Corp.

Teran has spent most of her career in-house at Fox. She graduated from New York University School of Law in 1997, and she worked as associate at Sidley Austin until 2000. She then became the director of business and legal affairs at Fox Sports International. She has also worked in-house at Fox Cable Networks serving in a variety of roles including associate general counsel. In 2011, Teran became executive vice president and deputy general counsel at Fox Networks Group and in 2014 became general counsel at Fox Sports.

“Her success overseeing business and legal affairs for multiple divisions of the company and proven leadership as FOX Sports General Counsel provide a solid foundation as she significantly expands her role and responsibilities,” Dinh said in the press release.

While at Fox Sports, Teran played a role in rights acquisitions for the National Football League, Major League Baseball and WWE, according to the press release.
