Keysight Technologies Inc. made it official: The California-based firm has named its acting general counsel, Jeffrey Li, as GC, senior vice president and secretary.

Li will oversee legal, compliance and customer contracts at the company, which designs, tests, makes and optimizes electronic equipment for an array of industries, from automotive and energy to communications and aerospace and defense. The firm generated $3.9 billion in revenues for fiscal year 2018.

Li went to work for Keysight at the firm's San Jose headquarters as vice president, assistant general counsel and assistant secretary in 2014, after the company spun off from Agilent Technologies Inc. He'd worked for Agilent for more than three years, first as senior counsel and later as vice president and assistant GC, according to his LinkedIn profile

In announcing Li's promotion, Keysight president and CEO Ron Nersesian said Li had “been instrumental in leading our legal organization and advising Keysight, our leadership team and me on a variety of legal topics” while serving as acting GC.

As GC, Li will continue to lead Keysight's legal, compliance and customer contracts functions while also serving as secretary to the company's board of directors. He was not available for comment Wednesday.

Li began his career in private practice and had a stint as an associate at Pillsbury Winthrop, now Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman, before accepting an associate counsel position at software company @Road Inc. in 2004.

He went on to serve as VP and GC of another tech firm, Openwave Systems Inc., before opening his own practice in 2008. Two years later, he began working as a senior counsel at Paragon Legal, which offers on-demand corporate counsel services.

Li is a graduate of Amherst College, Golden Gate University and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.
