Schneider National Inc., the largest truckload carrier in North America, has hired Thom Jackson as general counsel.
Jackson has a quarter-century of in-house experience and most recently served as senior vice president and GC of the Knowles Corp., a Chicago-based electronic manufacturing company. He begins his new position at Schneider on July 22.
He succeeds Paul Kardish, who left the Green Bay, Wisconsin-based company earlier this year. Kardish brought home $905,453 in total compensation in 2017, according to a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing from March 2018.
Jackson embarked on his legal career in 1992 as assistant general counsel for Exelon Corp., an American Fortune 100 energy company headquartered in Chicago. He went on to hold several in-house roles for an array of companies, including aerospace and defense electronics firm Ametek Inc., battery maker C&D Technologies Inc., and Glatfelter Co., a global maker of specialty papers and fiber-based engineered products, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Jackson is a graduate of Villanova University School of Law. He also has a master's degree in business administration from Villanova and a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Drexel University in Philadelphia.
Jackson was unavailable for comment, according to a spokeswoman for Schneider.
Schneider's new president and CEO, Mark Rourke, said in a statement that Jackson is a “highly skilled leader who further strengthens Schneider's talented executive team.”
Rourke added that Jackson “brings a wealth of experience of more than 25 years and is lauded for his litigation expertise, business acumen and focus on innovation which makes him the ideal candidate to lead our legal, risk management and government relations activities.”
Rourke stepped up from his former position as executive VP and chief operating officer and took over as CEO following the retirement of Chris Lofgren in April.
