Eastman Chemical Co. is on the hunt for a new top lawyer after announcing its chief legal officer is retiring.

The Kingsport, Tennessee-based advanced materials company announced Monday David Golden's plans to step down after 25 years to pursue other opportunities. Golden also held the senior vice president, chief sustainability officer and corporate secretary titles. Eastman's VP for global trade and compliance and assistant general counsel Clark Jordan will become interim CLO and corporate secretary, effective Thursday.

Golden joined Eastman in 1995 as an attorney handling various environmental matters, according to his LinkedIn profile. He has served several roles at the company, including director of ethics and compliance and director of the company's global business conduct and corporate audit services division, it said, adding he has been the top lawyer and a member of the executive company for more than six years. He was associate GC in 2012 and worked on the $3.4 billion deal to acquire Solutia Inc.

A graduate of the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University, Golden, who could not be reached for comment, began his legal career as an associate in the Atlanta office of Hunton & Williams, now Hunton Andrews Kurth, where he remained for three years before going in-house at Eastman, according to LinkedIn.

Eastman board chair and CEO Mark Costa described Golden's 25-year career with Eastman as “phenomenal.”

“David has been instrumental in strengthening the capabilities of his organization while driving a passion for sustainability throughout the company,” he said in the company statement. “We are grateful for his service and wish him much success in all of his future endeavors.”
