Vlocity Inc. has hired a tech industry in-house veteran as its new general counsel, the second the cloud computing company has hired in under a year.
Tom O’Brien, Vlocity’s new legal chief, announced his move Tuesday on LinkedIn. A representative from San Francisco-based Vlocity confirmed O’Brien has been hired as general counsel. O’Brien did not immediately respond to request for comment.
According to Vlocity’s general counsel job posting, O’Brien will report to chief operating officer Jeff Amann. He’ll advise on legal matters including “company policy, commercial agreements, intellectual property, privacy, employment, [and] corporate.”
“We are pleased to welcome Tom O’Brien as General Counsel at Vlocity,” Amann said in an emailed statement. “He brings with him impressive depth and breadth of expertise to the company.”
O’Brien replaces Mike McAdam, who joined Vlocity as general counsel less than nine months ago after more than a decade in-house at tech companies, according to LinkedIn. McAdam did not respond to request for comment. A Vlocity representative confirmed McAdam “is no longer with the company” but did not provide further comment.
Vlocity is not O’Brien’s first senior in-house role at a tech company. He takes the GC role after more than six years in the deputy general counsel seat at Glassdoor Inc., a site that allows employees and job candidates to review companies anonymously online.
At Glassdoor, O’Brien helped scale the legal department as the Mill Valley, California-based company grew from a “startup to global recruiting brand,” according to his LinkedIn profile. He’s also worked in-house at Monster Worldwide Inc. and Swete Studios.
“Tom’s experience in recent roles at companies like Glassdoor and Monster, will help us meet the needs of our customers successfully, on their journey to digital transformation,” Amann said.
O’Brien also has experience at several firms, including Ball Law Corp., Zuber Lawler & Del Duca, Wollmuth Maher & Deutsch and the offices of Arthur Leeds. He earned both his Juris Doctor and master of business administration at Columbia University.
