Ben Berman, a former in-house leader for online travel industry giants Booking Holdings Inc. and Orbitz Worldwide Inc., has joined Jobcase Inc. as general counsel.
Jobcase operates a social media platform and job marketplace that has more than 100 million registered users. The company is partnered with Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory and is based in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
As the company's top lawyer, Berman will advise Jobcase's senior management and "direct all legal strategy, particularly strategies related to corporate growth," the company stated in an announcement Wednesday. He is set to begin his new job Sept. 3 and will be based in Boston, according to a spokeswoman for Jobcase.
Berman said in a prepared statement he would leverage his "legal and operational experience with disruptive tech companies to help Jobcase continue on its path of success." He was not available for an interview Wednesday.
Berman began his career in 2002 as a Chicago-based contractor for Orbitz and moved up to the role of senior counsel in 2005, a role in which he was responsible for managing the firm's travel brands Orbitz.com, Ebookers.com, Cheaptickets.com and Hotelclub.com, according to his LinkedIn profile.
In 2009, Berman joined travel metasearch engine Kayak.com, which is operated by Booking Holdings. He initially served as the company's deputy general counsel and was promoted to GC in 2014.
As Kayak's chief lawyer, Berman directed a global legal team and managed several major acquisitions, including Booking Holdings' $2.6 billion deal to integrate with OpenTable and a $550 million purchase of The Momondo Group in 2017. Last year, Berman was named associate GC and senior vice president of Booking Holdings.
Jobcase founder and CEO Fred Goff said in a prepared statement that Berman's "strong pedigree in industry-leading, high-growth consumer internet companies will help fuel the next phase of Jobcase's empowerment of the world's workers.
"Ben's deep experience leading companies through the private-to-public journey, strategic acquisitions, and international expansion make him an invaluable addition to the executive team," he added.
