A Chicago-based mobile money transferring platform announced Thursday the hiring of a new general counsel and chief compliance officer who brings with him nearly 20 years of experience in financial services.

Alex Levine will lead Pangea Money Transfer's compliance and risk operations. He will also lead the company's regulatory affairs function for its global operations. It is not clear when Levine began his new role. It is also not clear if he is replacing someone or if he is the company's first general counsel. A spokesperson did not immediately respond to request for additional comments Friday.

In the press release, Levine said he became interested in Pangea because of its welcoming culture and nimble operations with mature, experienced decision-making.

"I am excited to be part of the Pangea team and provide regulatory insight that will help us bring financial services to even more unbanked people worldwide," Levine said.

Levine most recently worked as the chief regulatory officer, head of legal and corporate secretary at Trusttoken. Levine previously held in-house roles as head of legal and chief compliance officer at LedgerX, director of regulatory and compliance at The Options Clearing Corp. and general counsel at chief compliance officer at Gladius Capital Management. He has also worked as senior counsel at the Securities and Exchange Commission and senior regulatory counsel at the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission. After graduating from the Stanford Law School, he worked as an associate at Kirkland & Ellis.

"His regulatory and financial services experience elevate our product capabilities, keeping us at the forefront of financial technology," Nishu Thukral, CEO of Pangea, said in the press release.
