A gaming company that makes slot machines and video games for casinos announced Monday the promotion of its global deputy general counsel to global general counsel.

Robert Blair has been named global general counsel of Aruze Gaming Inc. and is responsible for overseeing the corporate legal department, leading contractual initiatives and overseeing the work of outside counsel. Blair started the role in August, according to his LinkedIn profile. However, the company did not announce the promotion until Monday.

It is not clear who held the role before Blair's promotion. A spokesperson for Aruze did not respond to request for comment Monday. Blair could not be reached for comment.

Aruze's president Rob Ziems said in the press release he is honored to promote Blair to the role of global general counsel.

"As a legal, patent, and gaming veteran, Bob brings an incredible amount of strength and wisdom to Aruze," Ziems said. "His impact is felt across the company. In this new capacity, his expertise will continue to lead and guide the global organization as we continue to expand and enter into new and exciting areas of business."

According to his LinkedIn profile, Blair began working at Aruze in 2017 as a global senior intellectual property counsel. In 2018, he was made global deputy general counsel. Before beginning to work at Aruze, Blair worked as an IP attorney at law firm EIP in Denver. He has also worked as the vice president of patents at Unwired Planet and has been responsible for in-house IP and patent work at Okada West and IGT. He graduated from the University of Denver College of Law in 2003.

Aruze Gaming is based in Hong Kong and has a U.S. headquarters in Las Vegas. According to the press release, the company operates in 40 countries and is licensed in nearly 200 gaming jurisdictions.
