Global defense, transportation and military technology company Cubic Corp. has hired Hilary Hageman as senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary.

Hageman started her new job Monday at Cubic's headquarters in San Diego. She succeeds Jim Edwards, who is transitioning to an executive advisory role as he prepares to retire in June 2020.

"I am excited to be part of the Cubic team where I can leverage my experience in corporate law, government and commercial contracting as well as my M&A background to support the future growth of the company," Hageman wrote in an email.

She reports to Cubic chairman, president and CEO Bradley Feldmann. She will manage the company's legal department and oversee ethics, contracts, global trade compliance and security.

She joins Cubic after having held in-house leadership roles for Science Applications International Corp. and CACI International Inc., federal government contractors in the information technology and defense sectors.

Hageman began her career in 1995 at the U.S. Department of Defense, where she served as the agency's lead attorney on export control and space law matters. She also oversaw legal support for national security, employment and international law, according to her LinkedIn profile

"Hilary brings experience in corporate law on a global scale, as well as deep industry expertise in government and commercial contracting and M&A to her role at Cubic," Feldmann said in a prepared statement.

Hageman's predecessor, Edwards, joined Cubic in 2008 as vice president, general counsel and secretary of one of the company's subsidiaries, Cubic Transportation Systems Inc. He was elevated to the top of Cubic's legal department in 2011, according to his LinkedIn profile

Feldmann described Edwards as having "been an integral member of our executive management team, leading and providing strategic counsel for our legal and corporate governance practices."

He added, "On behalf of Cubic, our board of directors and stakeholders, I would like to thank Jim for his dedication and dynamic leadership throughout his 11-year tenure at Cubic."
