Genesco Inc., the Nashville, Tennessee-based footwear and accessories specialty retailer affiliated with the Dockers brand and Journeys stores, named Scott Becker as its new general counsel Wednesday. Becker starts his new gig Oct. 23 and replaces Roger Sisson, who retired earlier this year.
Becker, who will also hold the senior vice president and corporate secretary titles at Genesco, was general counsel, corporate secretary and vice president of legal and government affairs at Nissan Group of North America and Latin America from 2006 to 2009.
Becker joined the automaker from Sears Holdings Corp., where from 2000 to 2006 he assumed positions such as associate general counsel of litigation, and vice president and deputy general counsel of retail operations, real estate and services.
"Genesco is a great company with a rich 95-year history and a dynamic leadership team," Becker said via email. "I am excited to be joining the Genesco family and look forward to helping the company write its next chapter."
Robert J. Dennis, Genesco chairman, president and CEO, said in a press release that Becker "brings a wealth of legal, financial and strategic experience to the Genesco senior executive team."
"His broad background and leadership as a chief legal officer coupled with his global experience, especially in the areas of corporate securities, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance and compliance, real estate, labor and employment, and litigation, will be valuable strategic assets to the Company as we build upon Genesco's recent success and drive future value as a footwear-focused company," Dennis added.
Genesco sells footwear and accessories in more than 1,500 retail stores throughout the U.S., U.K., Canada and the Republic of Ireland, mostly under the brand names Journeys, Schuh, Little Burgundy and Johnston & Murphy. The company also sells wholesale footwear under its Johnston & Murphy brand, the Trask brand and the licensed Dockers brand.
Becker, a graduate from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, began his legal career in Chicago law firms.
