A named partner at a New York law firm known for representing President Donald Trump's reelection campaign has left the firm to become the general counsel at a New York-based real estate company.

Howard Wenig will join The Bluestone Group beginning Jan. 1 as general counsel. It is not clear who held the general counsel role before Wenig was hired.

In a LinkedIn post, Bluestone partners, Eli Tabak and Marc Mendelsohn, said Wenig's experience makes him a great fit for the role.

"We have worked with Howard for over twenty years and are thrilled to be able to add someone with Howard's enormous breadth of experience, integrity, and knowledge to our team," Tabak and Mendelsohn said in the statement. "He has been an NYC industry leader for over forty years and will be a tremendous asset and resource to the Bluestone Team."

An email to Wenig's firm account was sent back saying he would no longer be with Belkin, Burden, Wenig & Goldman as of Jan. 1. An email sent to Wenig's personal account seeking comment was not returned on Tuesday. Members of the firm did not respond to request for comment on Tuesday. Bluestone did not respond to request for comment.

Wenig was a founding partner at Belkin Burden when the firm was created in 1989, according to his LinkedIn profile. He graduated from Brooklyn Law School in 1980. At the firm, Wenig's practice areas included leases, mortgage foreclosures and real estate transactions and financing.

According to an ABC News analysis of Trump reelection campaign finance records, Belkin Burden was paid $76,415 in the first three months of 2019 and was paid $55,668 throughout 2018.

The firm also represented the Trump Organization in the Trump University lawsuit. The Trump Organization was ordered to pay a $25 million settlement.
