Boeing Promotes 2 In-House Attorneys for Senior Roles
Grant Dixton takes over the general counsel role for Brett Gerry, who was made chief legal officer of Boeing earlier this month. Uma Amuluru was named chief compliance officer, succeeding Diana Sands, who will retire after 20 years at Boeing.

Boeing, the Chicago-based aerospace company, elevated two in-house attorneys to fill the general counsel and chief compliance officer roles.
Uma Amuluru was named vice president and chief compliance officer last week. Although there was no official announcement, she was added to the company's executive website with her new role. The previous chief ethics and compliance officer, Diana Sands, will retire this year after 20 years at Boeing, the company announced in April.
"I am excited to help Boeing proactively address new legal and compliance obligations arising from an increasingly complex global regulatory environment, and enhance its already strong compliance and internal governance program," Amuluru said in a statement to Corporate Counsel.
Amuluru, who is based in Chicago, started her career at Boeing in 2017 as senior counsel and most recently served as vice president and assistant general counsel. According to her LinkedIn profile, Amuluru has also served as an assistant U.S. attorney, associate counsel to President Barack Obama and litigation associate and partner at Kirkland & Ellis. She graduated from Northwestern University School of Law in 2005.
The company has also promoted Grant Dixton to serve as general counsel, senior vice president and corporate secretary. In his new role Dixton oversees all legal issues throughout the company and provides advice and counsel to senior leadership.
Dixton, who most recently served as deputy general counsel and corporate secretary, joined Boeing in 2006 as assistant general counsel. Before moving in-house, he served as associate counsel to President George W. Bush. He also worked as an associate at Kirkland & Ellis. He graduated from Harvard Law School in 1999.
"It is a privilege to serve Boeing during this challenging time, alongside an exceptional team of talented lawyers and professionals doing incredibly important work for the company," Dixton said.
Dixton took over as general counsel as Brett Gerry was promoted to chief legal officer earlier this month. Gerry became general counsel of Boeing in May 2019. He took over for J. Michael Luttig, who transitioned out of the role to serve as counselor and adviser to then-CEO Dennis Muilenburg.
Muilenburg was ousted as CEO in December amid criticism of how Boeing handled two crashes of its 737 Max 8 jets, resulting in the deaths of 346 people. Gerry remained as general counsel despite Muilenberg leaving the company.
