The chaotic nature and unpredictability of the pandemic should force legal departments to place a greater focus on their succession plans to highlight the boardroom leadership role of a general counsel during a crisis.

Experts told Corporate Counsel that internal candidates who are being groomed to take over as general counsel need to be coached on how to best interact with the board of directors and corporate communications and how to guide corporations during a crisis such as the pandemic.
