Legal operations may be on the edge of a giant leap forward, but first it has to get its house in order. A new 2020 Legal Operations Survey that was released Wednesday by Deloitte indicates that departments may still be operating somewhere between “foundational” and “advanced” on the legal ops maturity scale.

The survey collected responses from more than 100 legal professionals working in financial services, energy resources and industrials, life sciences and health care, technology, media and telecommunications, and consumer-based services. Interviews were conducted between May and August 2020, with respondents giving technology and knowledge management a 2.07 and a 2.57 respectively out of 4 on the legal ops maturity scale.
