The life of an expat lawyer can be isolating and stressful. But Booking.com chief legal officer Maria Rocha Barros has shown throughout her legal career, which has taken her all over the world, that she can thrive in virtually any jurisdiction while also dealing with crises.

Barros was born in England, but grew up in Brazil. She attended Stanford Law School in California, before moving across the country for an associate position in New York at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett. Her next job as an in-house leader for Anheuser-Busch InBev took her to Mexico City then Leuven, Belgium.
