I usually focus on best practices advice, both for inside counsel and the companies hiring them. This month I have a column that is more about an observation, one that may bother some of you, and about which I do not have advice to offer.

For context, I am writing this column from Florida. I first experienced the pandemic while home in Chicago. As a divorced man who was living alone, I struggled with the anxiety of social isolation and moved in May 2020 to Colorado, where I rented a home near family for six months. From the mountains, I wrote a column in August 2020 about our firm’s first All Zoom Hire. The photo accompanying that column speaks 1,000 words.
