When Jose Ramon Gonzalez takes the helm of Equitable Holdings Inc.’s legal department in late March, he will join a small group of Latino general counsels in the Fortune 500. At the moment, only 14, or 2.8%, of the GCs at the 500 largest corporations in the United States are Latino.

As a strategic adviser to the Hispanic National Bar Association’s PODER25 initiative, Gonzalez has been working to help increase the number of Latino GCs in the Fortune 500 to at least 20 by 2025. “Poder” is Spanish for “power,” and 25 refers to the year 2025.
