In an age of ongoing digital transformation, and in which growing mountains of sensitive data are being stored and transmitted online, cybercrime presents today’s single biggest threat to organizations of every size worldwide. But incredibly for a source of concern that rears its head every 39 seconds (and although over 80% of businesses expect a critical data breach or cyberattack within the next year), more than three-quarters of companies say that they don’t have a consistent cybersecurity response plan in place. Moreover, despite the fact that digital attacks on businesses continue to grow by 55% annually, and over 5 billion personal records are now being compromised in any given year, less than one in four organizations feels prepared to address a cyberattack today.

Noting this, it’s only becoming more imperative going forward that you make a more active point to champion cyber awareness and cyber safety at every level across tomorrow’s enterprise. But as many law firms and departments have also discovered by now, doing so isn’t just an exercise in implementing new legal guidelines, instituting additional corporate policies, or adopting more cutting-edge technology solutions. It’s also an exercise in promoting fundamental culture shifts inside organizations… and promoting more positive high-tech habits amongst staffers at every level. As a law industry leader, it bears reminding: Sources of cyber concern will only continue to grow going forward. But at the same time, online safety and security will only become greater areas of responsibility in which executives from every department and discipline must share.
