The need for legal departments to operate more efficiently during the pandemic accelerated the trend of corporate legal departments hiring legal operations professionals, according to Thomson Reuters’ 2021 State of Corporate Law Departments report, published Thursday.

According to the report, 81% of legal departments noted they were hiring dedicated legal operations professionals in 2020. That number is a significant jump from 57% of legal departments that hired legal operations professionals in 2019.
