Tim Murphy, the outcoming general counsel of Mastercard Inc., is taking on a newly created role as chief administrative officer. Mastercard further reorganized its legal department by elevating its head of public policy to the top lawyer position. 

As CAO, Murphy will oversee the Purchase, New York-based firm’s law, franchise and integrity activities while managing the people and capabilities function, according to an announcement Thursday from Mastercard.
