Delta Air Lines, like many of its competitors, struggled to bring in business in 2020. Since many chief legal officers’ compensation is tied to company performance, Delta’s top lawyer also lost money during the last year, according to a filing Friday with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Delta Air Lines’ chief legal officer, Peter Carter, saw his total compensation decrease by $1.8 million from 2019 to 2020. Carter’s total compensation of $3,618,050 in 2020 is comprised of a $343,750 salary, $2,325,177 million in stock awards, $775,037 in option awards, and $174,086 in other compensation.
