General counsel are increasingly in a balancing act, caught between the demands of outside stakeholders and internal considerations.

They are being pulled to revise workplace policies as a result of increased awareness of social issues from consumers and greater pushes for environmental, social and governance initiatives from investors. The general counsel’s goal here is to create a better workplace for employees and give consumers the knowledge that the institutions they use are trustworthy.
