Big paychecks are great and all. But for many general counsel, money isn’t nearly as important as having the CEO’s ear. 

“The microscope on compensation—it’s funny because when we ask GCs why they’re interested in considering something new, it’s almost never about compensation,” said John Gilmore, co-founder and managing partner of executive search firm BarkerGilmore in New York.
