The COVID-19 pandemic has put many in-house legal chiefs front and center, as they grapple with everything from technical legal issues related to working from home to calming the nerves of an anxiety-riddled workforce.

It’s the latest example of the broader influence many in-house legal chiefs now enjoy. But many of those new duties require so-called soft skills, such as emotional intelligence, communication and teamwork—topics not usually taught in law school.
