3M Co.'s longtime legal chief is preparing to part ways with the global conglomerate to take over as the general counsel at Medtronic. 

Ivan Fong is slated to begin his new job with the Dublin, Ireland-based health care technology company on Feb. 1, bringing an end to his nearly decadelong tenure at 3M. Medtronic's U.S. headquarters is in Minneapolis, just down the road from 3M's home base in St. Paul.
