United Natural Foods Inc. Chief Legal Officer Jill Sutton has parted ways with the wholesale food distributor after the company took away some of her responsibilities as part of a restructuring that a legal department consultant described as a “bit unusual.”

Aside from overseeing UNFI’s legal matters, Sutton, a former in-house leader for General Motors Co., also led labor relations for the Providence, Rhode Island-based company. UNFI, a primary supplier of Amazon.com Inc.’s Whole Foods Market Inc. supermarket chain, is embroiled in labor disputes with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.
