Smart home technology company SmartRent Inc., which launched just five years ago but already has a stock market value of $1.8 billion, has brought aboard a chief legal officer with more than 20 years of corporate legal experience.
The company announced the appointment of Brian Roberts on Wednesday. He comes to Phoenix-based SmartRent from Grand Canyon University, where he was general counsel for almost a decade. Prior to Grand Canyon, Roberts was the general counsel for iGo Inc., a publicly traded developer and distributor of electronic accessories.

The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays.
