The limited amount of “face time” general counsel appear to be given with their boards represents a significant governance and compliance concern that requires a collaborative board/management solution. That’s a key takeaway from the recently released survey, “General Counsel in the Boardroom” from a partnership of Diligent Corporation and Corporate Counsel.

According to the survey, nearly four in five respondents indicated that they frequently attend and/or report to their boards during regular meetings. That’s a good thing, and it is consistent with similar data reported by the Association of Corporate Counsel in its most recent annual surveys. It’s also a good thing that over 40% of the respondents have a reporting relationship to the board of directors.
