There's no manual for becoming a successful general counsel, but in-house experts say listening, building internal and external relationships and adapting to the company's culture will put first-time GCs on track.
Respondents to a Major, Lindsey and Africa new survey titled "What Every First Time General Counsel Should Know" said listening and relationship-building were especially important.
