Legal chiefs for dozens of major companies, including Amazon.com Inc., Morgan Stanley and Uber Technologies Inc., have signed a letter urging Congress to pass legislation aimed at leveling the pay and workload disparities between public defenders and prosecutors. 

The general counsel are backing the Ensuring Quality Access to Legal Defense Act, which would inject $250 million each year into public defender systems to reduce public defender workloads and raise their pay.
